Rosetta Tharpe (born 1915 in Cotton Plant, AR), began as many great Black musicians did. Playing in the church. She quickly became a force to be reckoned with. Well-traveled and recognized as a talent that could play "better than a man," Tharpe moved to New York City and continued to dominate the stage. Known as the pre-cursor to what we know as Rock-N-Roll, Tharpe wowed audeinces with her talent, creativity, and musical ingenuity.
