Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1958, Anita Baker began in church choirs where she grew up (Detroit, MI). From there she left community college to begin a singing career in 1983 that would see her blaze a trail in urban contemporary and R&B music, securing 18 Grammy nominations and winning a total of eight, while selling millions of albums worldwide.
