Starting at just age 17, Ethel Waters, built a grand career as a blues singer that spanned nightclub stages, Broadway, film, and television!

Born in Chester, Pennsylvania in 1896, married by age 12, and singing for the first time publicly by age 13, Ethel Waters moved full speed ahead. At 17 she started singing professionally in Baltimore, MD and never looked back. After a move to New York City, she made her way to Broadway in the 1920s, films in the 1930s, and television in the 1950s.
